Somary / English Chamber Orchestra - Handel:
Water Music, Royal Fireworks

The Suite from The Water Music has the main instruments emanating from the front speakers, with the interplay between wind and strings heard from the front and rear. The Music from The Royal Fireworks is arranged so the listener hears the music as if they were in the middle of the ensemble.

The featured solo horn is by the late Alan Civil OBE, who played the French horn on The Beatles song For No One from Revolver.

The SACD release featured the original quadraphonic mix with a silent centre channel as required by the SACD format that I deleted from my conversion.

Somary / English Chamber Orchestra - Bach: Brandenburg Concertos

These recordings of J S Bach's Brandenburg Concertos were recorded from the perspective of the conductor. Most of the orchestra is heard from the front speakers, although dialogue between wind and strings alternates between front and rear.

The SACD release featured the original quadraphonic mix with a silent centre channel as required by the SACD format that I deleted from my conversion and was a two disc set. As the high resolution version of the entire recording could fit on one disc, I created separate DVD-Audio and DVD-Video (DTS & Dolby) discs rather than two hybrid DVD-Audio/Video discs.

Skrowaczewski / Minnesota Orchestra - Ravel: Daphnis et Chloe

These recordings were originally part of a four LP set of Ravels' works. This conversion replicates the single LP edition as depicted in the cover art.

The SACD release included a bonus track - Valses nobles et sentimentales - that has not been included in the conversion.

The SACD release featured the original quadraphonic mix tweaked to 5.1 by adding centre and LFE channels that I deleted from my conversion. The quadraphonic mix here is "live in the audience" style with the rear channels recorded using "ambience" microphones at the rear of the concert hall, although the choir for Daphne et Chloe performs from the rear of the hall as the work calls for them to be "distant".

Skrowaczewski / Minnesota Orchestra - Ravel: Bolero

These recordings were originally part of a four LP set of Ravels' works. This conversion replicates the single LP edition as depicted in the cover art.

The SACD release included two bonus tracks - the second suite of Daphne et Chloe, which was also included in a separate release of that work, and a short extract of that suite with an added centre channel - that have not been included in the conversion.

The SACD release featured the original quadraphonic mix with an added centre channel - that was silent except for the second bonus track - that I deleted from my conversion. The quadraphonic mix here is "live in the audience" style with the rear channels recorded using "ambience" microphones at the rear of the concert hall.

The Moody Blues - Seventh Soujourn

The eighth album from The Moody Blues, and the seventh of the so-called "core seven" by their classic line-up (hence the title). This album saw the Mellotron supplemented by an updated version of the instrument that it had originally evolved from, the Chamberlin.

Although it was "tweaked" for 5.1 surround, the SACD was based on the original quadraphonic release. This conversion has been "untweaked" back to the original quadraphonic mix.

On 25 June 2013, a box set entitled Timeless Flight was released that included DVD-Video discs featuring the tweaked 5.1 mixes from the SACDs in DTS 24/48 & Dolby Digital. The original quadraphonic version has been preserved on this conversion.
